  About The Stuff Page

We all have stuff, even a web site. Recall the late George Carlin's comic routine on stuff. His stuff, my stuff, your stuff, our stuff, so a web site should have stuff too. The best example of web site stuff is stuff that doesn't fit on any other page. That kind of stuff.

In thinking what stuff to put on this Stuff Page we decided that it shouldn't be restricted to just the Class of 1960. So, we thought it should be open to other LHS class members as long as their stuff is good stuff.

If you have stuff that you'd like included on this page send it to:

Barry's "Bad" Merc

Barry said, "I found this great photo of my first car. . . . a '49 Merc "Lead-Sled". The picture was taken around 1959 or 60. Parked in front of our house in Livingston."

"I bought the car for $125 from Gordy Bell. Note the primed, louvered hood, spinners, and skirts. 3 on the tree, straight six, porter walls, note the fuzzy dice. Added fake Lakes pipes later. This piece of crap couldn't get out of its own way - - but I sure had fun with it!! Man, I would love to have this car today!!" We think even in this condition it would be worth more than $125 today.

We recently received an interesting email from Jean Overath McKenna (LHS 62 or 63?). We're not fond of youtube, myspace or the like but this has nostalgic value. It's a promotional film from Seaside Heights made in 1960. The text of the email follows:

This promotional film from 1960 was discovered by Peter J. Smith, Director of the Seaside Heights Office of Public Relations in May 2008.

Peter remembered seeing this film as a child and spent five years looking for this video inside the Borough Hall. One day, he had to reach high on a shelf to retrieve a box of 8 radios. However, the box contained only 7 radios. This made him grab a stepladder and look for the missing radio. The radio was found on top of a reel of film, which turned out to be the long-lost Sun and Fun video.

Those who grew up in New Jersey during the 1950's and 1960's will enjoy watching this video clip.

Here's some stuff about Jimmy Frey, LHS '57. Think back to our Freshman year, the Rhythm Ramblers, Jimmy was part of that group that entertained us at assemblies. Through the years he has maintained his guitair prowess. Click on Jim's picture to see and hear him on the steel guitar.

Here's more stuff. This time it's Ede Helmbach, LHS '59. You remember Paul's Market on Northfield Road near Cedar Street. Ede is Paul's daughter. Well Ede sent us this picture and asked if someone in our class could identify one of the girls.

From right to left: Our own Anngwyn St. Just (known to us then as Mary Ellen Erdlitz), Connie Ackerman, also of our class, Ede, with the arrow pointing out "Me", and the unknown girl on the left. Ede thinks her name is Judy but can't pull out the last name. She also says the slumber party was a Melanie Foris' house. If you know who the gal on the left is send us a email at Contact Us on the contact page.

WE HAVE A WINNER!!! We're not sure exactly what she's won. Perhaps something. If we can ever think of a suitable prize we'll see she awarded, but Janet Sharples has identified the Judy unkown as Judy Ewing, in less than 48 hours!

Congratulations Janet!
