We have recceived greetings from The Lake of Zurich, Switzerland. What was Barry DeVita doing in Iceland in October? Barry Jr.
Dr. Anngwyn St. Just (we knew her as Mary Ellen Erdlitz) has published her second book, A Question of Balance: a Systemic Approach to Understanding and Resolving Trauma. Her book is available at her web site which is www.acst-international.com or at www.amazon.com. The Spanish edition will be available later this year.
During October of 2008 Barry DeVita and his son, Barry Jr., left their homes on the East Coast and a beautiful, warm Indian Summer to endure the harsh fall of Iceland where the temperatures ranged from 35 to 45 degrees this time of the year. They traveled from JFK on a five-hour flight to Keflavik Airport, Iceland.
If you don't know it, Barry has an extensive collection of minerals and semi-precious stones. He is what is known as a "Rockhound." Like father like son, they're both Rockhounds. Going to Iceland was more of a geologic expedition than anything else. There are many aspects of Iceland that are of interest to those who love geology.
Aside from the rocks and minerals there Barry noted that everything was very expensive and there are very few fat people! He also dined on whale steak and said it was excellent.
Yes, Barry hopes to return to Iceland again one day and recommends it as a "cool" destination for those of you who like to travel. We think it would be more enjoyable in the summer rather than in the fall or winter, though!
Web Custodian note: Barry has sent a number of pictures from the trip. We hope to have them here as soon as we can find them on our hard drive.
Kennedy beats Ike
No, it wasn’t the political race of 1960. Remember Nixon lost to Kennedy in 1960, not Eisenhower. Our Bob Kennedy beat out hurricane Ike just before it hit Houston. Bob and his wife Mary were touring in their motor home and when they heard the hurricane was headed for Houston they high tailed it towards their home in California.

Penny's Party
Penny Green decided to invite a few classmates to her home for a "Post Pre-Union" gathering. We got wind of it from another classmate who was invited, so we called Penny and asked if she wanted us to put something on the web site so other classmates could attend. She said, "Please don't put anything on the web site. It's already out of hand. It's just mushroomed out of control. I have a small condo. I don't know how I'm going to fit all the people in." Our lips are sealed or is it our keyboard is sealed? Any way, after the gathering occurs we should have pictures, and a report from at least one of our classmates.
Penny's Party did occur on August 28. We're still waiting for the report and pictures. We did call Penny that evening to see how it was going. Joe Kruse answered the phone and said everyone was having a good time. We also spoke with Pete Bracuti, Rupe Munz, Pat Marinara, and Regina Wachowicz, and we probably missed somebody. Bonnie Wingerter was there too.
The Continuing Travels of Tjelda and Ray As we all know, our classmate Tjelda is quite the traveler. We will attempt to report on her travels, if she permits. If she doesn't we'll call her husband Ray to find out where in the world she has just returned from. Tjelda and Ray were off again Tjelda's Expedition How did the mission go? On Monday, June 9, Tjelda and Ray arrived at the Livingston Public Library with laptop and scanner in hand. Penny Green assisted Tjelda in doing the research and Ray manned the computer. Their mission was successful. They scanned all necessary images from the '60 Crossroads and some from '59 and '61. They also scanned, from other books, images of old Livingston. This could wind up being a treasure trove of graphics. Here is a picture of two of the three of them hard at work. We assume Tjelda was taking the picture, so she wasn't working!
About The News Page Normally on the News page is a chronolgy of the events added to the web site. This is great for webmasters, but who cares, other than other webmasters. "No news is good news" is the adage. We think news can be fun and informative. Who's a new grandparent? Better still, who's a new parent? Did you take a great trip? How was your vacation in Newark? Did you make a killing in Atlantic City? Don't tell us, send money. If you would like to contribute to this page or suggest some other page that we could create, (for example: I Remember page, or photos of then, or whatever you think of) please do. Simply send us the who, what, where, when, how, and why of your of your idea. It could be some memory of LHS, things we did, places we went, or funny stories (Try not to make it too personal!!). Oh, all content is subject to editorial review. Mr. Paul taught us well. We'll also ask your permission to publish before we hang it on the web site. Submit any text, photos, graphs, charts or anything your little heart desires to:
This time it was north to the Arctic during August. We don't have all the details yet but when we do you'll find them on this page. We did receive a post card from Canada and an email that they are back home.
Tjelda's made an expedition from her home in Charleston, SC to Livingston. Her mission was to scan the Crossroads Yearbook in order to obtain clean images of everyone. Remember, we wrote all over our pictures in other classmates' Crossroads. She plans to use them in the special yearbook she is producing for the 50th Reunion. More on the yearbook at a later time.
